i b i z a Dance and music define the rythm and heart beat of the island during the summer months. The wide range of workshops show the creativity and spritituality that are predominant in Ibiza. Famous artists, writers and architects travelled to and lived on Ibiza. Le Corbusier developped his Modulator here, the dadaist Hausmann was creative as a photographer and the writer Walter Benjamin wrote some of his most beautiful sentences here.
Of course the island of Eivissa, as it is called by the Ibizans, has a glorious past. Life has been marked by Punic, Roman and Moorish culture and technology. The Ibicencos genes prove that they descend in direct line from the Phoenicians, who settled on Ebusus in 700 b.C.
During the Spanish Civil war and the Second World war Ibiza was a place of refuge for many artists and intellectuals.
In the Sixties the island became a mecca for the hippies. Pink Floyd gave a concert near the magical Es Vedra and Prince wrote his song Purple Rain when, as every year, the red African earth left tears on the whitewashed houses.
Today world famous Djs mix the sound of the white island and export it to New York and Shanghai.
